I've tried both the sfr08 and the polaroid ultrasonic sensors, but·I'm not satisfyed with the results. Their "beams" are to wide. I have a hand held ultrasonic range meter that is perfect for my project. Does anybody know how to connect a hand held range meter to for example a java stamp? Have this been done before?

My range meter is called cb-1001 and can be seen here: http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Distance-measurer-manufacturers/b/2000000003844/3000000153153/20740.htm

I haven't tried it yet, but I wondered if you could use a cone or tube that would help to focus the beam a bit more for the transmission. I also wonder if it would work better if it was on the receiving transducer?? that way it could only get a ping from something within a smaller area. I would imagine that this would affect your short range accuracy, but hey, just use it for long range detection and ir for closer ranging.

Mind you I really know nothing in this area, this is just a thought and something I was going to try myself...
I wondered about this though ever since I saw a stud finder that used a transducer that looked similar to the one that comes on the US range finders (srf0X). it only used one, but it was a cone shaped tube that extenced from the TD about 2 inches I believe...
