I agree with... well all of you. The best error message is one that points out what the error is, how to fix it and what alternative workarounds there might be, all in the shortest posible form, thereby eliminating the "Oh yeah, just great! Now I have to scan every page of the manual to figure out what is wrong with my source code" feeling that a less verbose error message might give.
I think your proposed message does all three, so in my opinion, it's perfect.
