Difference in prices on bs2

Hello all,

I must be missing something but I want to purchase a bs2. Parallax sells them for $49.00. However, they also sell the entire 'BASIC Stamp 2 OEM Module (Kit Form) ' for only $30.00. If all I need is the BS2 why can't I get the module kit and save $19.00? I don't care if its black instead of the classic style.

Thanks,
Jim

Take a close look at the OEM version.· It does NOT have a BS2 - it has a chip that emulates the BS2, along with the necessary supporting hardware.·

From the description it says, ' This is a fully functional BASIC Stamp microcontroller. It is programmed using our Windows Editor just like the BS2-IC module. ' What will the true BS2 do that the emulating chip can't?

The OEM kit is will function the same as a BS2, but instead of being a 24pin DIP format using surface mount parts, it is a larger PCB with thru-hole parts.
I guess part of the price difference is that it is on sale, and part because you have to assemble it.

FYI, if you click on the official Parallax distributor list, you'll find some of them are selling the BS2-IC for $39.95.
