I have been playing around with the Bs2sx and a Serial LCD display without problem

im thinking of trying the SX/B programming tools , but im curious about one thing..

im currently running my LCD with only one pin from the basicstamp , why do i see diagrams showing the SX connected to a
LCD and its using 8 pins?

im a little confused about this what am i missing?

it is possible for to use only one I/O pin to drive my LCD as this is working rather well

thanks again.

It is likely that the diagrams you are seeing of an LCD connected to SXs are parallel LCDs. I am personally not aware of anything the stamp is capable of doing that the SX can't in one way or another, it may take a little more programming "know how" but its possible. A serial LCD can be interfaced with an SX using one pin (plus common Vdd (if requiring the same supply voltage) and Vss)

·· I know there is one example that Jon Williams did which is a Serial LCD Controller.· It is intended as a Co-Processor in that context, in that it is taking the serial data (From one pin) and speaking to the LCD with 8 bits.· Even on the serial LCD Displays this has to happen somewhere, usually on a serial backpack sandwiched on the back side of the display.

·· You can use a BASIC Stamp or another SX to talk to Jon's example with just one I/O pin.· Or as Paul mentioned, use a serial LCD Display.
