I would for some reason like to know what everyone's first robot was. Mine was the Photopopper 4.2b.

Mine was a line follower. Used a comparator and Cds photocells. It still runs (poorly).

EDIT: One neat trick I learned with mine, if you bend the cells so they face up, and reverse their connections, the robot becomes a "photovore", going towards the brightest light source.

This could be a very general request...

    Google Search "Robot definition"
    www.jeffbots.com/dictionary.html
    www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&oi=defmore&q=define:Robot
    www.webopedia.com/TERM/r/robot.html
    www.answers.com/topic/robot

...By crude definition, my first robot was a "walkie-talkie" incased in a motorized erector-set
where I could "speak" into another "walkie-talkie" in the next room, while my "Robot" spun
around in circles tormenting the dog. Keep in mind, I was barely in the third grade. tongue.gif

    I haven't had one... yet.

But how many remember the Heathkit robot that was offered many moons ago. I fantasized about getting one, complete the robotic arm and speech kit. I wanted to program it to chase the cat around the house wildly swinging its arm about, all the while yelling out "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!"

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't have the money. The cat would never have been the same.

My first robot was the "Decarte" by Diversified Enterprises.· It has a Stamp II "brain" and a pre-programmed PIC coprocessor for motor control.· My second robot was a BOEbot.· If I knew what I was doing, I would have started out with the BOEBot.· Although the Decarte was way more fun to build, I didn't learn nearly what I learned with the Robotics! Stamps In Class curriculum.
