i'm trying to talk with plc-centric devices that commonly speak modbus with an rs232 compatible serial interface.
does anyone have any experience with modbus?
specifically whats the hardware side look like? that is, how many io pins will i have to dedicate to the communication process (CD,RD,TD,DTR,DSR, RTS,CTS)

i have an excellent protocol reference guide (attached) but it doesnt go into any hardware detail.

thanks a mil

If your looking for the DB-9 connector pin connections, I can do that. I work with Modicon PLC's· which use modbus to commnicate between modules, and ethernet for network connectivity.
As far as writing the code for a stamp to communicate through modbus, I have no idea.
I can scan the documents with the wiring connections. Give me a day or two though.
