Boe-Bot (serial) with Linux

I just got a Boe-Bot and I'll be connecting it over serial to a Linux box (Debian).
I'm looking for some opinions about and pointers to tools.
I've downloaded (and successfully built) two so far: bstamp-2004.05.15 and
stampbc_124. Do these work roughly the same? Can anyone recommend one or
the other for any particular tasks? Can I use either to work thru the Boe-Bot book?
Does anyone know of any more exotic tools, such as (say) compilers for subsets of C?
(I ask because I'm a Java fellow myself.).
Thanx!

I also use debian Woody. I have tried to run bstamp but if failed when I try to upload the program to the BS2. It's not only my problem many linux users have the same problem at the same point... Take a look at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=6699206&forum_id=33278·and http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=4934662&forum_id=33278
Collegues are developing for resolving the problem...
Other· tools..., of course, I will try in a few days ptoke (pre-alpha):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ptoke
If you try it before, tell me how it works, please ?
It's a question of time to get BS2 working with linux properly...
