Hi,
I'm trying to use and old IBM Thinkpad 600 to work with bstamp for linux. I
haven't still find the solution. It works fine with windows, but I need to
work with linux and bstamp.
I'm very upset. Is there any solution ? Someone has the solution ?
I followed all information from ParallaX
HELP !!!
Some info:
fw:/home/chema# setserial -g /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
fw:/home/chema# ls -la /dev/bstamp
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Feb 27 03:27 /dev/bstamp -> ttyS0
fw:/home/chema# bstamp_run hello.tok
Error: No BASIC Stamp identified!
Probably the stamp isn't connected, perhaps your stamp version isn't
supported?
Try looking at the help, try 'bstamp_run -h' for more information.
fw:/home/chema# uname -a
Linux fw 2.2.20 #1 Sat Apr 20 11:45:28 EST 2002 i486 unknown
fw:/home/chema# bstamp_run -v
bstamp_run version 2004-05-12
current filename: bstamp_run
Thanks for your help

I'm new to Basic Stamp, but maybe I can help. I use Fedora Core 3 and can connect to the BS2 no problem. You might need to check the permissions on /dev/ttyS0. /dev/bstamp is just a link and not a device so Linux is going to use the permissions on what it points to, in this case /dev/ttyS0. Hope this helps.

I did try even with root and it didn´t resolve my problem. Also a I've changed the persmissions for all and the same....
Thanks,

What version of Linux are you running? I have not had any luck in getting the bstamp software working, RPM or compile. I'm not an expert, but it looks to me that it doesn't work with the newer versions of the kernal. I have been using the PBasic Compiler by Omar Ramirez Carbjal and it works but does not support PBasic 2.5. The only other thing I can think of is to make sure to copy (use the -rp option) your device files or links to /etc/udev/devices as root otherwise Linux will rebuild the /dev directory with the defaults in /etc/udev/devices and you will loose any permission changes and your /dev/bstamp link.
I agree with Spence too.

related problems, instead of searching through all the other forums.
What would be nice is a way of validating the operation of the system.
I can short pins 2&3 on the DE-9 male connector presented to the Super Carrier Board, and with minicom I see data echoed.
What can I do to validate data output and input to and from the basic stamp female connector on the board?
