Resistor lookup?

Hi,
I have several resistors that were given to me in a box of parts and I do not know what they are. Is there a way to find out what they are from a website or something? I don't have the manufacturer name.

The first one is a flat light blue color with 4 solid color bands on it, they are red, green, silver and gold in that order.

The seond one looks more like a capacitor in shape (flat ends, not tapered), it is black and has a silver band on one end and has 'MEC' on one line and then on the next line it has '1N4001'.

    Check with a DMM(Digital Multi-Meter)on Ohms to check if it is a capacitor or a resistor.

    Go on harbor freight.com and look for their on sale digital multimeter $2.99. Orange in color.

    It is a good unit. I know of 10 in this immediate area. One in use over 4 years on the original 9 v battery.

    It has all the common scales you will probably need for years to com.

    The 1n4001 may be a diode. If so, the silver bar across one end is the cathode.

    SPENCE is right, the 1N4001 is I think a high-PIV(Peak Inverse Voltage) diode.

    red green silver gold = 0.25 Ohm +/- 5%

    typically used for rectification purposes

    The black with a silver band marked 1n4001 i believe is a diode....

    Sorry I didn't search Chris. I was honestly thinking too 'small picture' in a way I guess. I totally forgot about the standards of the color bands and was thinking on the manufacturer level. That's they way things are in the fields I normally deal with so I guess that's why I didn't think about the standards.
