"Bad Boys Race Our Young Girls Behind Victory Garden Walls" -- meaning:
Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Gray, White -- Meaning:
    zero, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

So, Yellow, Violet, Brown is 47e1, or 470 ohms.

A Silver band after the last number means +- 10%, a Gold band means +- 5%

There is a pretty neat web tool at samengstrom.com/elec/resistor/index.html. It provides a pictorial approach showing the color bands as well as the value. But it is English only I'm afraid.

    Hello Joe:

I have a software that is in English and Spanish(not french).
It is less than 400 Kb. If you need english you must go to the
"VER" option to the top and select English" .

    Good luck: Markus

I don't have software for a resistor calculator.... Any more.... When I was 12 I wrote a program
for my Atari computer that could measure a resistance ( via the PADDLE controller) and the color
bands would automatically display on the screen to the closest standard resistor value.

However I do have a resistor color code cheat sheet that came in very handy until I finally
    memorized the color code.

I don't know if they still sell it, but Radio Shack had/has a little pocket Resistor/Inductor color code calculator that has wheels you spin to set the colors/values.· That's what I still use.· I remember the color bands on frequently used values of resistor, however I never really tried to memorize everything.· blush.gif

    Chris,

I have one of those too.... I kept loosing them though, until I finally tied a string to mine. (... The other end of the string
is tied to a "small parts" multi-drawer cabinet. - grin)

Mine is invaluable to me...I never really concerned myself with learning the bands and values...I just use the calculator...Speaking of calculators, I have one Radio Shack sold YEARS ago which converts between BIN, DEC, HEX, OCT, etc.· Does direct electrical calculations usinf electronics symbols and everything.· And handles conversions between value ranges, for example, uS to mS to S, etc.· I let it do all my math too!· Not lazy, just learned to make use of my tools at a young age.· I had a teacher who taught me to use the right tool for the job, and to make use of the tools at your disposal.· And so I do.
