Optimal Mounting for Devantech SRF04 Ranger

I am using a single·Devantech SRF04 Ranger mounted on a servo as the main detector for my small robot.· Pretty simple stuff... rotate, take the average of a few measurements, rotate some more, take the average of a few measurements, etc.

The Devantech SRF04 Ranger is mounted·long wise (the emitter and receiver are next to each other).· I have seen a few robots where the Devantech SRF04 Ranger is mounted·vertical (the emitter and receiver are·over one another).

Which is the best way to mount the Devantech SRF04 Ranger so it has the·greatest chance of·"seeing" an obstacle?

Thanks,

Steve·

    Hello,

This is where the DEBUG command comes in handy.· I would use the DEBUG command and check to see where your best readings are coming from.

The advise from the manufacturs (www.robotelectronics.co.uk) suggest mounting it horizontal and 30cm or so of the floor, to avoid ground relections

They sell a mounting kit as well...

Their product page techical detail is excellent

For examples for the SRF08 - look on the www.robot-electronics.co.uk website for most controllers, or in the object exchange for the Propeller (i2cObjectv2)
