Building Mp3 player with stamp?

The next project is due

I am thinking about building my own car mp3 player. Is it possible with the Basic stamp to steer an standard IDE controller and the VLSI1001 (mp3 decoder) and add some NVRAM memory as a buffer, or would I be better off with a more low-level PIC or Atmel microcontroller?

My requirements are:
IDE controller
MP3 decoder (VLSI)
Graphic LCD
USB support
