Temperature Sensing: Options?

Greetings,

I am new to this forum, but I'm fairly familiar with the javelin. We use the javelin to do remote monitoring and make the data available (as XML via the redi web server) to our sql server.

Anyhow, one of the things we'd like to start doing is temperature monitoring of our coolers. These are coolers in a convenience store, so the temperature range is generally between 25 and 40 degrees, farenheit.

I have seen some talk on this forum about various options available. I'm looking for some insight into what everyone thinks would be the best chip (or what have you) for the solution, both in terms of response at lower temperatures, and how well it will interface with the javelin. Also, it is possible that in some locations the cooler could be 100-200 feet from the javelin. How could this impact performance?

Thank you to any who respond!

Chris

    Hi ChrisB

I think for the control of the coolers should suffice a BS1 with a simple termistor circuit to read the temperature with a couple of serial pins to dialogate with the javelin see the Basic Stamps manual for the hardware and software related to the two topics temperature sensing with a termistor and serial communication.

in the hope this will suffice

    best regards

    OOOOPS

I forgot to mention that the serial sholud be done trough a current loop that if well done should guarantee a fair communication up to 1000 ft.

    greetings
