Line Follower Module

I have a boe-Bot and have added the line follower module. Running the text program I am not able to adjust the pot to the 00100 as It should be. (100001)
And when I try to run the competition program the bot jerks to the left and stops.
Should I condem the module and order another one? Would not be hard to believe I messed this one up.
Or am I doing something retarded, again?

Make sure you "tune" the line follower so that it responds appropriately -- that is, it can see the line with its sensors as you pass it back and forth. I always start with all sensors over the "0" surface and set for 00000. The I put it onto the line and make sure that I see 11111. If not I readjust the pot to get 11111 when the line is under all of the sensors.

Ambient light can affect the sensor. One way to handle this is to make a "skirt" of black paper that extends down nearly to the course surface.
