Is the search function drain dead?

Or is it just me? confused.gif

I have tried over and over to search for posts which I know are there, but the search doesn't find them. For instance, a search for "cold heat" or "cold, heat" in all forums for any dates yields no hits. And yet, there are at least two posts that I know of that include these terms:

For that matter, a search for "cold" doesn't even yield the above posts!

If anybody can shed some light on how to use the search tool with more than one search term, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, the search engine is on life support at the moment. I am testing an update to the seach engine that should produce much better results. The current system does a search based upon hash values. Nice idea, but it misses a lot of potential hits if you use the defaults. You do get better results if you select the 'Any words or phrases' search option. It does find at least three posts that reference 'cold'.

Using 'any' does find three hits. Althogh none of them are the links referenced in my inial post.

I shall anxiously await the new search engine. Is there any kind of timeframe? Will you announce it in either this, or the Announcements forum if and when it is installed?

    Thanks much,
    Jim

When I search for 'cold' now, the engine only returns 2 hits. That certainly qualifies the engine for life support. The updates to the search engine should be posted in the next few days if the tests go well. I will post an announcement in the Announcements forum when the patches are deployed.

The weather is clearing out here in soggy California. Time to ride.

Have fun. Down here in Chula Vista, in "sunny" Southern California, it's still solid gray and raining. But at least it's not blowing 20 knots like earlier.

    I am experiencing similar problems...

For example, try doing a search for "magic smoke" with "Any Date" to find my post...

Well the search seems to have a heart beat, you just need to hit search twice. The first time will give nothing, the second will give back a fist full of results.

Nope, clicking submit 2,3, 4, or 5 time still returns zero results for words I verified before searching, Search is STILL brain dead. Not even a heart beat.
