I'm trying to create a robot that can interpret sheet music using QTI line sensors, but I just realized it might be more complicated than i expected it to be.· The line sensors seem to be designed to detect 3/4 inch lines, but staff lines on sheet music usually don't come in such a large size.· I was wondering if anyone knows how to go around this problem by adjusting sensitivity of the QTI line sensors (I couldn't find the right code for this).· Any additional suggestions would be appreciated too; I just started the project recently.· Thanks.

    You might want to consider the use of an appropriate lens between the QTI line sensor and the sheet music. I have seen flat magnification lenses which are the size of a page in a fair sized book, for folks with limited vision. As I remember they weren't all that expensive either since they were made of a plastic material.

    Are you speaking of reading a "standard" sized measure on a store bought music book?

    I'm sure you are....but just leading to my own question;· have you tried making a staff that would be big enough for the line follower to read?

    OR, if you make it big enough and have the proper amount of light, you might look at the CMUCam ( http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=30051·).· I'm pretty sure you can define a pixelated area to look for "incidences" of interest.· I don't know how well it would read small print...but it'd definately need to be scanned across the page like a scanner.· And at that point you might look at a mask to put over the camera so that there's a vertical slit for the unit to scan along a staff.

    I can see this working, but with a lot of code for sure! tongue.gif·· And it definately would be a quick bang off scan to give you the right readings (not as fast as a UPC scanner!.

    As a musician that plays 'by ear' and can't read music (best I can do is put an hour in to figuring out if it's All Cows Eat Grass or FACE! haha).

    That's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind. I've seen them substantially thinner than that particular one however. I'll see if I can find one on the Internet to look at.
