USB BOE Board Rev A Issue

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? I am using XP Pro. I keep getting intermittent download failures with the, "Power or Serial cable problem" message. I am powering the board with a 9V wall transformer and I measured the input voltage and the voltage after the regulator and there is no problem. I am also fairly sure that the USB cable that came with the board is not the problem. The problem was getting worse as the program files got longer.
I have discovered what seems to fix it. I accessed the Com (USB) Port Advanced settings and changed the Minimum Read and Write Timeout from 0 to 100 MS. Since I had not changed them I assume they were set to 0 as part of the installation.
I have not seen anything about this in the documentation or on this forum so I thought I would pass this along.
