long distance color sensor?

I need something that works like the Color Sensor but longer distance...· I believe that is called a camera (but I don't need the high resolution that cameras provide.. which will make the price cheaper I hope)

I have a sonar sensor right now... is there some kind of sensor that shoots light or a laser and basically gets information on what color it hits?...

The colour sensor has a 5.3mm lens to allow which basically is made for objects 1 inch away.

What kind of lens would I need to try to view something 1 meter away...

My guess is that I would need some sort of mini telescope... I will try googling for it.

I suppose you could use an old camera lens (maybe with autofocus) and limit the area of input to a small hole.

Since most 35mm cameras had the film plane at the backside of the camera, I assume you would have a few centimeters to move in or out. In this way you could find an exact position. And, you may be able to find generic lens mounts for Canon and Nikon lens that allow you build you own box with the colour sensor inside.

The beauty of this approach is that you can swap lens if and when you find that you need a greater focal length and you have the certainty that the lens were created to duplicate color faithfully. You can even control the depth of field (how deep the in focus region is).

go to www.RobotRoom.com (use capitol letters) and take a look at the color sensor there.

    Bugg,

·· Capitals don't have any effect in domain names...They're not needed...The only time capitals matter is after the domain name.· For example:

    www.robotroom.com & www.RobotRoom.com are the same thing...

    www.robotroom.com/Robots & www.robotroom.com/robots are different...At least on most UNIX/Linux servers...
