bs2 oem servo problems

i am running a servo off a bs2 oem
when i program the stamp to controll the servo it doesn't work right.
when i power the board the servo starts going crazy (jitters and movement).
after going crazy it sometimes runs the program correctly.
i know it is not code because the program and servo work fine on my home work board.
i am powering the servo through the vdd.
i am powering the stamp through the vin with a 12volt adapter 800ma, but it seems to be pushing around 17volts.
also after a while of going crazy the stamp says eeprom failure and will not let me program it also says cannot find stamp(all plugs were pluged in)
i put it down for about an hour and when i came back the stamp would program again.
is my stamp messed up or what???
thanks for the help...

You may be drawing too much current from the BASIC Stamp module with the servo. Perhaps a separate power supply is in order.
