How would you'll control around 30 dc stepper motors that are rated at 3 or 4 amps and around 5volts?

The motors would run one at a time. They would rotate 360degree then quit..

I believe John Or Dave mentioned:
using 74HC595s and ULN2803s to control 4 stepper motors.. would I go along the same route? with using many more steppers? What is the max output Amps of the uln2803? isn't it 1amp?

thanks for any info :)

When you download the ULN2x03 data sheet (hint) you'll find that it won't handle that much current; you may need to go with a custom solution, perhaps large MOSFETs for each phase. A search on the web for H-Bridge designs is likely to turn up a useful list of parts.
