Basic Stamp and Solenoids

I am using a 12V box solonoid (Heavy-duty 12 Vdc pull-type solenoid. Continuous duty. 14 ohm coil. 2.2" x 1.65" x 1.45" box frame with four threaded mounting holes in two sides. 0.5" diameter slotted plunger with hole for pin extends 1.25" when retracted. Solder lug terminals.
)

I am trying to connect it to my basic stamp to create a locking mechanism. (the stamp wil control 3 different solonoids based on user input). Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to connect my solonoid to my basic stamp? Thanks!!

    Take a look at these Darlington Arrays. I suspect one of them will meet your needs:

    interesting.. I would use uln2803a chip and 3 relays js1-12v.· The relays are rated in HP, so definitly will handle what you need.

    I've used a Photovoltaic Relay (PVN012) for solenoids before. You can hook them directly up to a BS, and act similar to a standard electromechanical relay. They need only 3 mA to be "fully on", and in the C connection (see spec) you can have a continuous 4.5 Amp current, and even higher for pulsed operation. For the C connection, it has 40 only milliOhms of resistance. They're a little pricier than some other parts (5$ each), but very easy and reliable.

    Hope that helps.

    I was having some problems with pvn012 and contacted Chris Savage on this. He notes that the PVN012 DOES require a resistor ahead of it. I should have looked at the schematic more closely, but I doubt that you can connect them up directly.
    Thanks
