Wow, I just found out about the new XGameStation (XGS) shipping now (but if you order it now, you can't get it for Xmas, sigh).
It is an SX52 based, fully documented, fully user-programmable game machine, with sound and composite video outputs.· They refer to Parallax·for lots of documentation and resources, so I thought it would be okay to mention them.
www.xgamestation.com will take you to their website.· This system is done by Andre LaMothe, writer of several Game Development books for the PC.· His new book on writing games for the XGS will be released soon.
Finally, a fully programmable game station for "the rest of us".· Hopefully, this thing will fulfill the promise of the Commodore 64.

It will come with a ton of books. One is his book that teaches how you would build the console from scratch.
Unfortunately that book is not ready yet. Although, it probably will be by the time the next shipment ships.
