4Bit R 2R Ladder network

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial or example on howto do a 4bit R2R ladder network in basic stamp. All the examples that I have seen use a DAC converter. Our teacher wants us to start with just a R2R and our stamp NO DAC converter. We are suppose to hook our R2R to an oscilloscope and to generate a sawtooth wave and a sine wave etc... I just don't know where to start.
