controlling large motor?

I'm looking to power this motor:

with this battery:

Problem is I do not know how fast the battery will discharge to the motor in amps.

I plan on using the MotorMind C, however its max continuous amps is 4.5 (or is it 2.25?).

Is there some sort of thing out there that can limit amps that goes from the battery to the motor?

Thanks.

I would think that the battery would deliver whatever current the motor calls for.· At start, the motor will draw max current and once it gets up to speed the current will decrease to whatever it takes to keep the motor running.· If you use a small resistor, say .5 ohms, it will drop the voltage to the motor by .5 ohms x 5 amps - 2.5 volts.· As the motor gets up to speed, the current and therefore the voltage drop across the resistor will decrease.· Power rating of the resistor would have to be 5 amps x 2.5 volts = 12.5 watts.· That is a big resistor.

How about I get a Parallax Servo Controller:
    http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28023

And a ESC (electronic speed controller):
    http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUY13&P=0

The ESC is commonly used in the electric R/C car world. Pretty much it has 3 sets of wires. 1 set plugs into the R/C receiver, and acts like a servo. 2nd set goes to the power supply. And the 3rd set goes to the motor. Although it does not look like a servo, it still plugs into the "servo" spot in the receiver.

Do you all think the Parallax Servo Controller could control this ESC?

    Thanks,
    Matthew
