bs2 won't recognize my robot

i have installed bs2 editor on my laptop, but there is no serial port so i converted the DB9 to a DB25 parallel port and connected that to my laptop but it is not being recongnized, HELP

    Yes, you can use a USB adapter -- we found that the FTDI adapter works best.
