LCD Screen from TI-83 Plus Silver Edition

Hello.
I have a TI-83 Silver Edition Graphing calculator that does not work
anymore. I have kept it around for a while thinking that it may come
in useful sometime. And I think I may have found a use.

I am interested in purchasing the Rev. C BOE and a BASIC Stamp 2 soon.
This will be my first venture into the BASIC Stamp world, so i am
definitely a novice. I am wondering if it is possible to take the
fairly good LCD matrix display from the Graphing Calculator and
connect it to the Stamp and use it as a screen for projects. If this
is in any way possible that would be relly great. Also, i know that
the TI-83 Silver Edition has a lot of RAM and 'Archive' space (which i
think is EEPROM or something) So if that could be used too, than this
broken calc could be really useful.

I thank you for all replies in advance.
Marcus.

    Hi Marcus,

Just to respond a little to this post, The TI-83 seems interesting
    with 1.5meg or ROM on-board.

I did a very quick Google for ti-83 hack and didn't find much, but
that does not mean there is nothing there.

I think your idea of merging the two things, the Stamp and a specific
model of a device is not a very broad range idea and therefore not
many people have done something like that.

I know people have talked about some cell phones having serial LCD
screens so those could be used. If the graphing screen is serial,
then you should be able to adapt it to use with a Stamp.

If, on the other hand, it is controlled by a FPGA or some other mega-
pin-count chip, then it will be really hard to interface as the sheer
size of the program would preclude a Stamp.

I've recently been wanting an hand held programmer, or at least a
hand held updater and memory downloader and thought abut using an old
cell phone. neat housing, has a keypad, and screen.

But there are just so darn many different types of cell phones and
calculators and even caller-ID units that have displays that is would
be hard to have one specific one hacked.

Of course, there may be somebody who had pulled apart your TI-83 and
knows the protocol for writing to the LCD.

    Dave
