Basic-X or Basic Stamp

please pardon me if this is not the right place for this question.
But, I'm struggling with this question for a few weeks now.

I'm in the process of redesigning my miniature autonomous robot -
ALIBE. Please see LOSA
(http://www.hth.com/filelibrary/txtfiles/losa.txt).

One of the requirement is for multiprocessing. Obviously BS2 won't
cut it. B-X will handle it. However, I'm totally ignorant of B-X.
You guys seem to have knowledge on the 2 processors. I also need
speed, ability to not poll but, respond to events - as in a true
event driven programming, etc.

Do you guys know or can point out pros and cons from building and
developer angle. I have been to the B-X site and saw the compare
sheet. But, not enough to convince me to jump on the B-X wagon.

Any help, ideas, or links to your B-X projects would be of great help.

thanks in advance
nagi

Netmedia has their own support forums and you should address your
questions about their products with them.

One thing I will say for the BasicX is their pins are a much simpler piece
    of engineering (therefore more durable).
The stamp is based around a PIC and has the best support and an easy to
    grasp command structure.
The X is based around an AVR, is a bit low on support groups, and (for me at
least) their implementation of Visual Basic is like trying to learn to fly a
    harrier while blindfolded.
After tinkering with one for a while I decided to use stamps for rapid turn
around / quick and easy changes of the main code, and co-process with PICs
    when absolutely necessary.

I can tell you, no matter what you think of Parallax vs. Netmedia
products, you will *never* get the support or help from Netmedia that
you get from Parallax & the stamp community. Not to be totally
negative, but this is spoken from past experience.

    My 2 cents worth...

I'm not struggling with such questions. I have both BX-24 and
    variety of Stamps.

And I exclusively use Stamps. Why? SUPPORT!

Try to read the BX-24 manual. For example, compare the Put1Wire vs.
OWOUT explanations. The BX-24 gives 1 sentence explanation. The BS2
gives about 7 pages of explanation including working example programs.

Also, with Stamps, you get excellent educational materials such as
StampWorks and Nuts & Volts written by Jon Williams. I've found his
work to be EXTREMELY educational, fun to read, and informative.

There is no comparison, especially if you are a beginner.

Once you become more of an "expert", then you may want to investigate
BX-24 for its speed, memory etc.

For me, I've been using Stamps for about 2 years and never gone back
trying to use BX-24. They are just collecting dust.

    Hope it helps.

    Dear sir,
I have a question for you?Well you have been
dealing with the Basic Stamps since 2 years u may
solve my problem it looks weired to me.Although some
days before I was able to attach the DS1822 1 wire
thermometer with my BS2P24 stamp using the code of one
wire as given by parallax. But something went wrong
with the circuit some days before.Well now the basic
initial program of connecting the one 22 gauge wire
from the pin15 to ib2 and putting the jumper ib2 in
order to pull up a 4.7kohm resistor only dosent work.
Well if I connect the wire it says no device found and
    if I dont it saya Dallas 1 wire:00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    00.
Well before it was working. There is nothing I can find
out please help me.Well I am trying to play with it
but its all in vain till now.I have tested this on all
other pins.Just run the program it says dallas1 wire
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 without even connecting a
wire. The empty bredboard and the program runs. The
moment u connect the one 22 gauge wire it says no 1
    wire device present,ridiculous.

Please help me in this matter if anyone can.I am new
with this.I have changed the com ports ,rebootted the
computer everything ,well the program which was
    working before dosent work anymore.

    Regards,
    Amrit.
