What precautions do I need to take to protect the Sensirion
Temperature/Humidity Sensor when using it outdoors? I have not been
able to locate any data on this.

Thanks for your time and help!

Like any other temp/humidity sensing instrument it should be placed in a
protective shelter (that lets air circulate). For obvious reasons, you
don't want to expose it to direct sunlight or moister (rain, sprinklers,
    etc.).

Sensirion will be introducing a membrane (gortex?) to cover and
protect the sensor from harsh conditions. The worst conditions are
those where caustic materials are floating around, such as the marine
environment with salt or the agricultural environment with sulfur
sprays, or a heavy traffic environment with smog. That is where the
    membrane would be helpful.

In less harsh conditions, like Jon said, just protect it from direct
exposure to the elements. A PVC cap/roof with a screen cover on the
open end may be all the protection you need. You usually want the
temperature/humidity in the shade, away from the effects of radiation
from the sky or from the ground. Ventilated radiation shields like
the Davis 7714 are good, but you will always get the best result from
a large but open shaded area.

    Hi all:
Just a quick note: Not sure if there is anyway to protect this device from
lightning, but I got one blown out by secondary voltage from a nearby strike
while I had it mounted outside on the north side of my house, and it wiped
out the two ports I was using on the stamp to run it. The rest of the stamp
ports were OK. Anyway, might be a good idea to disconnect it (sensiron
sensor) from the stamp when there is outside electrical activity. As Jon
and Tracy indicated, I had it mounted inside a pill bottle with a screen on
one end pointed downward to keep rain from getting into it. It worked great
    until the lightning strike!

Thanks to everyone for the help! I love it when the true experts help
    us folks out.
Wish I could find screen wire with a small enough mesh to keep ants
    out.

Try looking for some sifting mesh not unlike this:
    http://www.screentg.com/square22.htm

It comes in all sorts of sizes, large mesh and small mesh.
