home automation VS robots

Ok hello.I'm a new member and I do smart buildings.All i want to say
is that i want to add robots in my projects.Do you have any good idea
to make life better in a building with robots?
Like a robot can detect thiefs call the police or can it send you
some messages in your mail about what is happening in your building.
I need help buddies.....What parts should i buy?

I am currently working on a senior design project
quite similar to this...not using a robot, per say,
but microcontrollers, web cams, a phone dialer (DTMF),
smoke detector connected to a RF transmitter, and X-10
components.

The final project (due in a month) will alert you if
you if your house is bugerlarized, and record the area
of activity.

The home automation uses the XOUT. Looking for X-10
commands COULD require a dedicated processor. Stamp
application #19 has the phone interface. SEROUT tells
the computer where to record.
