Help with Analog and BS2

Hello everyone,
I am new to everything: BS2's, programming, electronics and robot
building which is what got me into all this. I have learned lots and
enjoy reading all the posts. A lot of it is still over my head but
no effort no gain.
BS2's are really cool units. Using MMBs with great help from Lon at
Solutions Cubed. Now trying to hook up Analog sharp GP2D12 sensors
to my Bot. I could have used digital sensors but wanted to learn
ADC. Read so much my brain is gonna pop soon. Had no idea what I was
getting into.
I have an 0804LCN ADC from National Semi. I understand the basic
principals now, just I look at all the schematics and am unsure the
correct way to hook/uputilize the ADC. I learned with an LM358
hooking something up wrong or "experimenting" does not work with
IC's. They cook first go.
Been around the Web about twice now so I have done as much homework
as I can. I'm sure with the stuff I have read and saved its in
there, but I just can't seem to pull it all together. To many circut
options, unknown lingo. I need this from a real beginners
perspective.
Any help to confirm hookup, (pins to use, grnd,what other
components -resistors, capacitors, etc.), code for the BS2, etc
would be very appreciated. I know I could just go digital, but where
theres a challenge way above my head...I'm too stubborn for my own
good [noparse]:)[/noparse].
