Can you write in Pbasic on a palm handheld and write the program by
the serial port to a BASIC stamp?

No. You could edit source files, but there is no compiler/downloader
available for the Palm OS.

i want it too, when are you guys making one, :) one of the greatest
tools in my learning proces is bieng able to take it any where via
piece of paper a palm and a small bag of tools, this would rock,
personally i use palm vx, so i guess the conection on the bottom
would need to be hijacked for serial use, id like to see you guys
make a palm aplication

We have no current plans to make an editor for the Palm OS. That's not
to say that we won't at some point in the future, but there is no
guarantee.

Has anyone tried or successfully programmed a BASIC Stamp 2, using the
BASIC Stamp Programming protocol example (included with the current
tokenizer release), on a Palm-based device? Our specific concern is the
ability to create a hardware connection to the Palm and generating a
break-condition and proper timing. If someone is willing to
prove/disprove that it can be done, we'd consider this request further.

Thank you.

I belong to the Dallas Personal Robotics Group, and the group uses this
phrase (coined, I think, by Roger Arrick): "It's harder than it looks."
And, really, not many people are asking for it. Before you get down, we
think it's important too (though low on our priority list), but we have
to do it as part of a larger strategy. Myself and others are
investigating tools and methods for us to deliver BASIC Stamp tools that
work on a variety of platforms -- but this will take time, so please
allow us.

A couple of months ago I wrote about the hardware issues,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/basicstamps/message/38038?threaded=1

I use the Palm for field data offloads, and it is fine for that.
However, for programming, it takes an external one-shot circuit to
generate the BREAK and reset pulses required initiate the programming
cycle. AFAIK, the Palm serial port is not capable of generating
those signals without external help.

The Stache at http://www.emesystems.com/stache.htm is useful for
field program updates.
