Help with New Editor

The old editor works fine for programming a BS2
(same as always.)
The new beta editor does not recognize the BS1 or BS2.
Any idea what's going on?
I already tried the port setting and it's polling both
COM1 and COM2.
I'm running virtual PC 5 on Mac iBook G3 OS9.2.

can't guaranteed results on your system. You may consider going to a
native Mac tool developed by one of our customers:

WHY? MacBS2 is a Mac OS X native IDE for programming BS2's:
<http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23027>
Works with the Keyspan USB serial adapters. I'm using a USA-19.

Thanks. But that's not working either - it has no BS1
capability!
Lots of people are excited over the BS1 revival and
programming it with Windows instead of DOS.
The Basic Stamp 1 is very important
to many projects and it needs a working editor.
The new editor should have the same hardware-
connect interface as the previous version editor. Right?
The previous one works, and so should the new one,
right?
I'm trying to program the new Stamp 1 Project Board.
The pevious editor works fine in virtual pc for BS2s. If
everyone used only BS2s then we could try
the unsupported native OSx software for BS2s.
My concern is the new editor does not work with either BS1
or BS2. So what was changed in the new editor? Is it
something that can be changed back to get it working?
It's really odd, when you release a new version of
an already working editor program and now it
doesn't work.
I'm hoping it's a simple fix, but waiting until the next
software release to program my Basic Stamp 1
project board will not be easy.

Mac and Linux included) so no, it doesn't necessarily mean that because
one version of our editor worked in your emulator that the next will. I
really wish things were different, but they're not.
From our point-of-view, the new editor works fine in the intended
environment. The easiest "fix" for your problem would be to run our
editor on a Windows machine. I don't mean to sound flip; it's not my
intention.
FWIW, we are exploring options to develop future tools that look and
work the same on all major operating systems. But this is a big new
project, and will take time to put in place. Until then, though,
understand that we probably won't concern ourselves with emulators --
getting things to work as well as they do in geniune Windows is effort
enough.

I'm trying to program the Basic Stamp 1.
Where's the Mac native application for that?

BS1 compiler is currently a piece of assembly code that we are able to
link into a Windows program (this works since it's Intel assembly code)
but, unfortunately, that won't work on any other OS. I know this is
terribly frustrating for some customers ... us too.
As I indicated in a previous post, we (I'm on the team doing this) are
exploring opportunities and tools for us to develop software for our
products that will work on all major operating systems, in particular
Windows, Mac, and Linux. This is tough work though, and we have a lot
to learn.

So use the previous editor. What's the problem?

I don't follow your logic here; If everyone else jumped off a bridge...
Why do you care what "everyone else" is doing? The MacBS2 is a vast
improvement over using the windows BS2 IDE via VirtualPC. I hardly find your
reason justifiable for avoiding a native product.
The real question is if YOU use only BS2's; Heck, not even that; I'm not
_ONLY_ using BS2's; I program BS1's & now the Javelin (LOVE IT!). Now if
there were an IDE for all three I'd use it, otherwise I use Stampw.exe (via
VPC & KeySpan USA19QW) for BS1's, MacBS2 for BS2's (w/KeySpan USA19) and
Javelin Stamp IDE.exe (via VPC & KeySpan USA19Qi) for the Javelin. Other
than playing musical USB serial adapters, everything works fine.
All that aside, which editor are you having problems with?

Just to clarify, Joe means a "real" (not-emulated) Windows machine. Joe
can't be held accountable for problems in the VPC emulator or the KeySpan
USB to serial adapters, etc. If the new editor works in the intended
(non-emulated) environment but not the emulated environment then it's the
VPC developers that should be investigating the issue. Good luck thou, since
Connectix has been bought by the dark side I don't have high expectations
that they're going to do much to keep VPC running.

I'll do anything within my abilities to help Parallax make this happen.
Chances are good that their Linux efforts should build and run just fine on
Mac OS X. This is much more important than them investigating problems with
VPC.

If I can duplicate whatever problem you're having the I'll talk with the
ex-Connectix engineers in Redmond. They might know of a fix.
BTW: Triple check that you've installed the latest Keyspan drivers from
their web site. They posted a USA19 driver updated in November.

I don't know of one. I use Stampw.exe with VPC and KeySpan USA19QW. Doesn't
seem to work with USA19 or USA19Qi.
