Cermetek 1837A DAA DTMF Problem

I am trying to interface the BS2p40 with a DAA 1837A from Cermetek.
The tones sound good on the phone but the phone company doesn't
recognize the tones. Are the tones generated by the BS2 noisy? Is
there anyone that has a circuit that works for this. Seems really
simple to connect using this DAA but its not working.

    Troy,

I know virtually nothing about this.

I do know that the length of the tone can make a difference. A no
frills AT&T touch tone phone generates tones that last a certain
length of time. Some other phones only produce the tone for the
period of time that the button is depressed which in the early days
of touch tone caused some problems.

Try a longer period on your tones if you have control of that.

    Good luck,
    Frank

Are you connecting the FREQOUT/DTMFOUT output pin directly to the line
without filtering? The manual and help file show a two-stage filter
that is required to take the output from the BASIC Stamp and shape it
    into a clean sine wave.

What page of the manual are you refering to? Page 109 of Manual
    2.0b shows a .001uF a 1k and a .1uF network that I have attempted to
use but it does not work. If there is a better two stage network
that someone knows works I would sure like to try it. An active
filter that is mentioned in the manual on page 109 sounds like the
best idea but I don't know what that looks like.

    Thanks,

    Troy

    Troy,

Before you change your circuit, you may want to experiment with the on-
and off-times for the DTMF tones. Err on the side of caution (imagine
you're 100 years old dialing the phone with a frail finger -- do that in
code). I have only ever "dialed the phone" using a BASIC Stamp with an
acoustic connection (held the phone near a speaker) -- but it did work.

The circuit on page 109 of the Basic Stamp Manual, Version 2.0 is correct
and it does work very well. Are you using the specified transformer?

I work with DTMF dialers a bit, and usually 20-50 millisecond tone pulse
separated by a 10-30 millisecond interval in between is sufficient. These
numbers actually depend on the switch that your line is connected to more
than anything else ; some older switches don't signal as fast, etc.

It really doesn't seem to be that the tones are too fast. It just
doesn't recognize them at all. I even built the circuit on page 109
and it still doesn't work. I know that I am missing something. I
am going to get out the scope and look at waveforms and levels
tomorrow. There is something wrong with this.
