BS2P40 LCD Question

Hey everyone. Thanks to a few projects requiring them, I finally
got around a few days ago to playing with the BSP40 (I had been
using the BS2 for a long time). Even though for LCD Displays I
usually use a PIC-an-LCD, EDE, or some other chip, I decided to try
the built-in LCD commands and today connected a 2 X 16 LCD display
to the demo board. Now, according to the manual, these devices use
7 lines to control the LCD, and in the P40 Demo Board manual it
shows using P0 as the Enable pin. This should use P0 & P2-P7,
leaving P1 free, but when I tried to use it for something today, I
got some weird results the next time I printed to the LCD Display.
Is this line really unavailaiable in this configuration? Thanks!

This line is not actually free it will mimic the enable line.

Stephen,
So when you are able to choose pin 0 or 1, it's really using
both? Most of the examples in the BS2 Manual use 1, but the Demo
Board examples use 0, so that's what I tried. Well, I guess
technically then it's using 8 lines.
