Jon Williams (or other helpful soul),
You have mentioned the on-line help several times. Can you tell me
specifically how to find the on-line help. I have downloaded many
documents from the Downloads/Documention area:
http://www.parallax.com/html_pages/downloads/basicstamps/documentatio
n_basic_stamp.asp but I'm not sure where to find the on-line help.
Thanks,
Ron Czapala

The help is integrated into the STAMPW IDE (Integrated Development
Environment), Windows Editor, and the information resides on your
computer once you have the IDE installed.
It is not "online" in the sense that you need an internet connection
to get at it. It is "on-line" or "on-call" or "on-demand" in the
sense that all you need to do is click on the little icon at the far
right end of the icon bar that looks like a little book with a
question mark on its cover. That opens the help facility, which has
a nice index and also a search function.

line" was the source of my confusion. I've been a programmer for 30
years and developed Visual Basic applications for seven of those
years. I don't believe I've ever heard of the context sensitive help
or HTML help files packaged with an application as "on-line" help.
When developing Intranet applications we did provide help pages
designated as "on-line" help and rightly so!
Thanks for your response.

Actually I had some problems with invoking help from within the
program - I think it was a conflict with the XP HTML help dlls, so I
just created a shortcut to the PBasic.CHM file. I can't remember
exactly what the situation was but the help icon on the tool bar
does not function.

open the help file it will float to the top, but doesn't if you close it
and re-open it. It will in fact open, it just may be lower than the
editor or other windows. You will see in your task bar that the help
file is open. I use XP Pro, but we've seen this on other versions of
Windows as well.

Thanks Jon - it was the "on-line" phrase that threw me.

The help window actually locks up and the caption bar
reads "PBasic Syntax Guide (Not Responding)" if I try to enter a
keyword under the Index tab". I have to kill the help task and the
next time I click the Help icon, it doesn't do anything.
It only does this IF I invoke Help from within the editor. If I
start help from the .CHM shortcut it works great. Pretty strange.
I think the problem is with the "Help.exe" file in the editor
folder. When I click the PBasic.CHM shortcut instead, it uses the XP
Pro help system files.

For what it's worth, I open the Help file from within the Editor and it
operates flawlessly. I am using the latest version of the Stamp Editor - V 2.0
Beta 2.

The "About" info say version 2.0 - the file is named
SetupStampEditorv2_0lg.exe.
The XP Properties Version tab shows version 2.0.6.0
The Help.exe file is verion 1.1.0.16 - It think this is the source
of the problem since the CHM file behaves normally when the XP
HH.exe program opens it.

I just tried the 2.1 Beta and it never hung up when
typing in a keyword in the index tab.
But, when I first start the stamp editor, a window
comes up and says:
"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk
into drive \Device\Harddisk\DR6." Cancel, Try again,
Continue.
If I hit Cancel or Continue twice, it runs just fine,
but if I hit Try again it just keeps asking me to try
again.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition, Athalon 1.5 GHz,
256M Ram.
Anybody else with this problem?
Thanks and have a great day!!

ve had a similar problem but in my case, the program is looking for a CD.
I'm thinking about deleting the entire presence of PBasic and then reloading
it to see if the problem goes away. It's not a really bad problem - just an
irritant...

I agree with you. It is an minor irritant at best.
As long as the program works that is all I care about.
I may try removing the program completely and try
reinstalling it again as you are thinkig about doing.
If that does not work then as long as the PBasic
editor works then that will be ok.
Take care and have a great day!

it from the tool bar. But if I access it from the HELP pull down menu, it
comes up no problems.
If there is a different version that is KNOWN not to have this problem I
would like to download it. But if not, like everyone says, it's just kind
of irritating.

I also have Version 2.0 Beta 2.1, and mine locks up every time IF I
access it from the tool bar. But if I access it from the HELP pull down
menu, it comes up no problems. If there is a different version that is
KNOWN not to have this problem I would like to download it. But if not,
like everyone says, it's just kind of irritating.

beta 2 whether I invoke it from the toolbar icon or from the menu.
If I open the help file with Microsoft's HH.EXE (e.g. HH.exe
PBasic.CHM) it works great. Can Parallax distribute the MS hh.exe
file rather than the Help.exe file?
