parallel-to-serial conveter

I am using the Basic stamp Basic Stamp 2p40 module. I have 8 bit
parallel and would like to convert them to serial (CE, CLK, DATA) to
drive the LED display, how could I do that?

Thanks,

Lee

SHIFTOUT will handle the clock and [sychronous] data pin; you can use
HIGH and LOW to handle CE.

Can the basic stamp Bs40 generate the clock upto 500Khz? If so, how can i do
    that using the SHIFTOUT?

    Thanks for the helps,

    Lee

No, you cannot generate a 500 kHz signal with a BS2p. And SHIFTOUT on
the BS2p runs at about 42 kbits/second. If you really need to send a
synchonous stream at 500 kHz, I think you're going to have to do it with
assembly language on a very fast micro (like the SX [NOT the BS2sx]).
