Hello from Gregg C Levine
Now I've got a few questions on, an application note written by a Jeff
Martin, its called "AppKit: Using the SN75176 in an RS485 Network". It
was written on 9/21/99. By this, am I to assume that the SN75176
device, was chosen for the networking example. But any matching device
would work? For example Maxim makes a collection of parts, all them
are indeed RS485 networking devices, and at least eight of them, match
the SN75176 in pin-outs, and even specifications. I've even got a
sample kit from TI which contains two parts, which came later. I'm
pretty sure that the original part is still being made by TI.
Jon, are you familiar with the PDF? It was downloaded from the
Parallax site, on or around 6/22/2000.

The 75176 family is easy to use and very robust. I have used up to
8 or 10 stamps on a network with a thousand or so feet of cable
without a hitch.
As pointed out, Jan Axleson's book is the 'bible' and will quickly
bring you up to speed on biasing and the other fine points of
networks for micro-controllers.
If you have a specific hitch, email me directly.
