Dead BS1s?
I've been using BS2s and Javelin Stamps for years now, but after
seeing the announcement for the new BS1 serial port adapter and BS1
support in the Windows Editor, I decided to buy a serial adapter and
three BS1s for some small robot sensor modules I was building.
The problem was, when I tried plugging any of the three into a
breadboard, supplying VIN with a 9V battery, and plugging the serial
adapter in via a three pin header, I get a "Stamp not found" error
from the editor, which is usually an indication that the stamp is not
powered up. I checked VIN and VDD with a meter and they both looked
good, so at least the regulator works. I even tried wiring up a
parallel cable and using the DOS editor - still nothing.
I have had electronic components get "zapped" while in shipping
before, so is there a quick way to check with a meter or a scope that
the stamp is "alive"? Any help would be appreciated.

tough little bugger. I don't think I've ever killed one, and I have
been quite abusive with some of my projects. If you have a scope you
can look for the resonator signal, also the clock line to the EE. That
should give you some indication of life or not.
