It would be a little tough -- though not impossible -- to create a
line-follower with the SumoBot(r). In only has two line sensors, and
they are spaced 3.5" apart. This isn't really a very good configuration
for a line-follower. Typically, line-followers that use just two
sensors are spaced just outside the line to follow to elinate wide
"tacking" (like a sailboat) swings. Now, if you make your line about
3.25" then it won't be much of a problem....

Hi, I came accross this message and just wondering how
to program the line follower. Is the line sensor
already on the robot?

The SumoBot has to line sensor elements. Their purpose is to prevent
the SumoBot from driving itself out of the ring (the mini sumo ring is
black with a white border).
If these sensors were used for line followig the results would not be
good unless the line was nearly as wide as the sensor spacing. Our
standard line follower module has five elements and is designed to
cleanly follow a 1" (standard) line. It will work with narrower lines,
of course, it just "bounces" a bit more.

We don't do line following with the Parallax SumoBot(r) robot. There
are only two border (line) sensors and they are spaced more than 3
inches apart -- this does not make for a good line follower. I'm not
saying that it can't be done, but I suspect your robot will follow the
line looking a bit like a drunken sailor....
