i'm having a problem with using the stamp to power a portable "walkman"
style cd player. if i apply 5vdc from my power supply the cd player works, but
when i use the stamp the output drops from 5 volts to 2.5 volts. can anyone
give me a suggestion on how to remedy this problem. thanks in advance for
any help.

The CD player wants more current than the stamp is capable of supplying.

Tell us what you are using to power the stamp and we can provide a solution.

It sounds like you want the stamp to control the power to your cd player,
    yes/no?

There are some 5 volt regulators that have an "enable" terminal. One solution
is to get one of these regulators. (will look up the number tomorrow at work)
and use the stamp to control the enable terminal, and the regulator will run
from the same power that is used to power the stamp (9v battery, wall mart etc)

You need to use a power supply with more current output. What do you mean
you are 'powering' a cd player with a stamp?

Yes, a PNP transistor or a P channel Mosfet will work. Do you know how much
current the CD player uses for a worst case. Measure it if you need to (Volume
at max, and something with a heavy Base will give you maximum current
    consumption)
