Hi - I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction
regarding very simple (homemade) electromagnets and the bs2. Thanks,
Jordan

    Hi, Jordan.

Nothing comes to mind specifically regarding both. But any stepper
motor is nothing more than a series of electromagnets, and there's
ample reference to steppers and stamps. So if you use that as an
interface guide, and focus elswhere for the electromagnet specifics,
you'll have everything (I think) you're looking for.

    Have fun!

A good source of electromagnets for experimenting is to use the coils from
burnt out relays. The contacts are usually the weak point of relays but the
coil usually survives. Just hack them up and get the coil and core. They
are already rated for a specific voltage so you don't need to be concerned
with that. By the way, they can also function as a detector by passing a
magnet past them, a voltage will output from the windings that you can use
to trigger a circuit to use as an input to the stamp. On the output,
interface them to the stamp via a transistor switch (or another relay) and
there you go. Interfacing circuits are detailed on the following web site.

    Jordan,

I'm not sure what you are looking for. I have a project that *sort of* uses
electromagnets and a Stamp. It's a coil gun, and Stamp measures the velocity
of the projectile. www.madlabs.info Probably not what you want, but there is
also misc. information on the site about electromagnets. If you can be more
specific, maybe we can help out.
