12VDC Brushed Motor Control

I have a BS2P24 and PWMPAL controller and need
to control the speed of a 12VDC/18amp brushed motor
from 300 to 7300 rpm. The motor has a tach output
consisting of a square wave output that is proportional to
the motor speed.
What is the best method to use to drive the motor?
PWM, switching regulator?
Are there any off the shelf solutions available that are
relatively inexpensive?
The PWMPAL works fine for smaller brushless fan
motors that I've experimented with up to 1.0amp but
I'm not sure it will work well with the much larger motor
and current requirements.
Thanks,

I haven't gotten any response to the following so I'll try again.
Hopefully someone has some suggestions. Thanks again..

SolutionsCubed has the Icon H-Bridge which
is good up to 40 Volts 12 Amps. What you
need is a LOT of current.

We've done speed control on similar motors by using a resistor & cap to
convert the motor's output to an analog value & then sampling it, and then
using PWM to control power to the motor accordingly.

Probably not an 18 Amp motor, especially considering startup current
demand. If a small Advert isn't too forward, you might take a look at our
EDE16020 20-Amp H-Bridge Module at www.elabinc.com It should fit in there
nicely and handle your motor easily.

Thanks for the reply. The motor is a Temic
blower motor and is rated 12V @ 18 amps.
I ran it briefly at ~12.5V and it drew ~17 amps.
The good news is that I'll probably only need half
of that power as that I'll only need half speed at
max. Again, any constructive ideas are appreciated.

Excellent big DC motor Controllers. You can just wire it up and use the same
code that you would to drive a servo! Fusing these probably wouldn't be a bad
    idea too.

have you checked out radio controll car esc's? sounds like what you
want but with a dyno for precise mesurement
