Adding COM Port

Hi,
Does anyone have experience with adding a COM port to the BS2.? My
idea is to use a MAX202, RS-232 device and connect directly to a
couple of unused I/O pins. Anything to "watch out" for here..? It
looks pretty straight forward...hence my concern.!

of course, the COM port doesn't operate unless the Stamp is listening or
talking. There is no buffering without some external hardware.
There are two things you might find interesting on my sites:
1) Using a MAX3110 http://www.wd5gnr.com/suart.htm (buffering, level
conversion)
2) http://www.awce.com/rs1.htm - We use these all the time to do what I
think you are describing.
Because you aren't buffering, you may want to consider routing at least one
handshaking line through (the RS1 has a pair of handshake connections; one
for each direction).
Good luck!
