Newbie motor question for BASIC Stamp HomeWork Board

I took a motor from a VCR and connected it to the Vdd and Vss on the
HomeWork Board. This causes the motor to turn. However, if I connect
it to an I/O pin and Vss it doesn't turn. (I am running a program
that works, tested it with an LED.) I can feel the motor slightly
moving as if it's getting a small amount of power. Are the I/O pins
weaker than the Vdd? I thought the board just switched between Vdd
and Vss internally.

Thanks

You're in very serious danger of damaging your HomeWork board if you
keep this up. The HW board is not designed to run high-current devices
like motors. Luckily, the board has pin protection resistors built-in
and that saved your BASIC Stamp (the resistor limits current through
that IO pin and that's probably why the motor won't turn).

If you want to know about running motors from the BASIC Stamp, read this
article by Stamp guru Scott Edwards:

But keep in mind that the HW board has a very low current regulator and
you will need an external supply for the motor.
