Big hands working with tiny chips?
My experience has been limited to working with chips the size of DIPs
or so. But some of these tiny packages I can't seem to work with. Example:
http://www.maxim-ic.com/cgi-bin/packages?pkg=24%2FQSOP&Type=Max
Does anyone sell adaptors that'll fit a chip like this and convert it
over to a DIP package, or is there a better way? I do not get along
with small ICs.

Hi,
I've been making SOIC to DIP adapters for others and there is a limit
to how small you need/want to go.
A SOIC has pins spaced by 50 mil and a there are 25mil spacing chips
as well. The 25mil are best left to experianced solderers as the
soldering can be extreely hard to get correct.
There are a few places to buy baords like Digi-key, search for
surfboards and look thru the catalogue pages as there are dip
versions by other names.
I have been making just the PC board, single sided, for $5.00 and
using Glitchbuster's (http://www.glitchbuster.com/) shipping
charge of $1.85 flat rate.
I can shoehorn an 8 pin chip onto a 300 DIP, but the rest are 600 DIP.
Since I have been making these one at a time, The cost is a little
steep. If there was much interest (e-mail me direct please) I could
get the cost lower.

chip mounted on the board.
The SSOP is the 25 mil spacing and you can see an ugly picture of one
in the photos section in the folder.
Adapters SMT to DIP
I hate to sound like a plug for products or services, I have been
doing this for friends and not as a business, but if there is
interest in the whole idea, I would be happy to write up more
information.
