12 vdc Solenoid

I am in need of a 12 vdc Solenoid that will need at least a 2 inch
stroke on it. It will also need to have at least a 4 pound pull and
be able to be mounted in a engine compartment. I have done a search
on the internet but the only hits that I have come up with are small
solenoids. Does any one out there know of a company or source for
this type of solenoid?

Thanks
Gene

Go to www.trombetta.com and look at their offerings. They may be a little
heavy duty for your needs but they would work and they are specifically
    designed for engine compartment locations.

    Gene,

You may need something a bit more sophisticated than a solenoid.
Asking a solenoid to deliver long stroke and strong pull are at
opposite ends of the physical capabilities of solenoids.
You can probably adapt a small motor and gearbox to give you
what you need and at a smaller current draw. Consider a windshield
wiper motor assembly or a power window motor. An electric screwdriver
is an economical way to get a compact motor and gearbox . Put a
crank with 1 inch of throw on the shaft and there's your 2 inch
stroke. Plus you'll be able to easily generate your 4 pound pull.

consider a cruise control solenoid as used on many cars. Sounds like a trip
to the local junk yard is in order!
