Stamp repair

As I remember it, someone recently asked about repairing stamps. At
that time, I passed over the info.

Bad Grover.

So, now I have a student who is like the grim reaper. I have 3
stamps, two with sick outputs, and one stone cold dead.

Where do I send them to get repaired? How does the cost of repair
compare to the cost of a new stamp?

Currently, I am sharpening the probes/prods in preparation of a
defensive stance<G>.

Contact parallax. At one time I believe they had an "exchange/rebuild"
program at a cost much cheaper than replacing......

Hello "Bad Grover" and all customers,

Parallax tests all BASIC Stamps prior to shipment to guarantee quality
control. The BASIC Stamp is very robust and is known to survive in
hostile conditions (Antarctica, Space, DARPA vehicles to name a few
    places).

Sometimes, BASIC Stamps get damaged. The most common occurrences are due
    to:
    - Over voltage on I/O pin(s) and/or vdd
    - Over current on I/O pin(s) and/or vdd
    - ESD

Currently, we offer a very flexible exchange program in lieu of a repair
option. Without going into the details of an RMA transaction and the
    polices
    (http://www.parallax.com/html_pages/company/policies/warranty.asp), I
wanted to provide you with the costs of the replacements.

Assuming that you qualify for a non warranty replacement AND we receive
the damaged product, the pricing is as follows:

    BS1-IC = $20.00
    BS2-IC = $28.00
    BS2E-IC = $30.00
    BS2SX-IC = $32.00
    BS2P24 = $42.00
    BS2P40 = $60.00

Feel free to contact us at support@p... or sales@p... if
    you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Erik Wood

Hello (again) from Gregg C Levine
Erik, can you expand on this statement, when you get a chance? "The
BASIC Stamp is very robust and is known to survive in hostile
conditions (Antarctica, Space, DARPA vehicles to name a few places)."

I'm interested in two out of the three.

    Hi Gregg,

I just wanted to make the point that the BASIC Stamp is very durable.

We will have an application posted on our web site before the end of the week
which highlights a BASIC Stamp project in space. I don't have a documented app
in Antarctica (I pulled that from a conversation I had with an engineer a couple
of years ago). More information on DARPA vehicles with a BASIC Stamp may be
available after the challenge at the end of the month, but the information is
    dependent upon the team(s) involved.
