These are questions for Parallax:

1. What is an AppMod Extension? How far will it extend?
2. What are the dimensions of an AppMod board?
3. What female connecter is used for an AppMod?
4. How many AppMods can be stacked?
5. Can I purchase the AppMod female socket and extenders from Parallax?

I have a couple of ideas in mind for some generally (I think) AppMods
and want to try them out.

    1. Not sure I understand the question. The AppMod connector is a 2x10
    socket with pins that extend throuh the PCB into a socket below. The
    socket is made by Samtec, and they come in various configurations. The
    configuration selected depends on the board. For our programming
    boards, we just need the sockets without the pins protruding through
    past the requirement for soldering. For AppMod boards, we use longer
    pins of course so that we can plug into sockets below.

    2. I will upload a graphic that shows the standard dimensions and
    connector placement of an AppMod board. The "typical" dimension is 2.5"
    x 2.5" -- but we make a few AppMods that are smaller (like the RS-232
    AppMod).

    3. Same -- made by Samtec.

    4. There's probably no electrical or physical limit -- just depends on
    how the pins are defined and how much current is going to be required by
    the various devices. I've seen BOE-Bots with up to four AppMods stacked
    on it.

    5. We will be adding the connector to our "Component Shop" this week.

    The AppMod RS-232 description states that the following are included:

    * RS-232 DCE AppMod
    * 20-pin AppMod extender
    * M-F stand-off
    * 4-40 screw
    * 4-40 nut
    * Printed Documentation

    My question #1 refers to the above "20-pin AppMod extender". Not sure
    it is a necessary item, just curious.

    Most AppMods are populated with parts that need a little extra spacing.
    The "AppMod extender" is a Samtec socket that is used to increase the
    space between AppMod PCBs.

    An AppMod extension is a 2x10 female header that lifts the AppMod so it will
    seat on a standoff at the bottom of the BOE.

    > 2. What are the dimensions of an AppMod board?

    2.525 left to right
    2.5 top to bottom

    > 3. What female connecter is used for an AppMod?

    It plugs into to the 2x10 female header (AppMod Connector) on the BOE.

    > 4. How many AppMods can be stacked?

    Until you run out of I/O ports. I have one stack five high.

    > 5. Can I purchase the AppMod female socket and extenders from Parallax?

    If you are talking about the female header on the AppMod that plugs into an
    extender, that connector is the same as the extender - a 2x10 dual female
    header with long solder tails.
