I would check everything that might have loosened or shorted.
I assume that a 5" fall would not shake out any of the smoke, but a
few minutes of poking with a multi-meter should reveal if things that
are supposed to get power do, and things that are not supposed to do
not.

desk and tumbled around with a few other small items. Initially there
appeared to be no damage (pins not bent, etc.) and I really didn't expect
any -- it wasn't that severe. However, "no Stamp found" was the result.
Upon *very close* inspection, it turned out that one of the tiny surface
mount transistors associated with the serial communication had been knocked
off and was missing.
At the time I wasn't comfortable doing those SOT surface mount transistors
so I called Parallax to see if they would repair it for a bit less than
their normal "cancelled Stamp" exchange price. As usual, they were a
pleasure to deal with, and my BS2 is still working fine today.

last night and after a little troubleshooting we found that the
problem was low batteries. There wasn't an indication of this before
the fall, so I was a little confused. At least it's up and running
now :)
