Memsic 2125 help needed

I want to use the Memsic 2125 as a rotational sensor for my robot. I
want to use it instead of a compass to decide how many degrees my
robot turns.

The problem is that no matter how i posistion the Memsic i can't get
it to sens rotation in the horizontal plane. Measuring rotation in
the vertical plane (like a clock on the wall) works fine.

Is it impossible to use it in the way i want or do i just have to
position it differently?

My robot is currently very disorientated!

You wont be able to use the Memsic in that application -- unless your
robot is a wall-climber. The reason is that it relies on gravity. If
you tilt the sensor up on its side, you can combine the X and Y outputs
to get rotational position, but in the vertical plane, not horizontal as
    a normal robot would require.

We don't sell them, but you might consider the CMPS01 from
Devantech(www.robot-electronics.com). I've used it with BASIC and
Javelin Stamps and it works quite nicely.

Can anybody suggest a compass module that would be suitable for use on a boat
    (pitching & rolling issues)?

    Respectfully,

I can't give you any suggestion, but it migth be possible to use a
memsic2125 to calculate the roll and and pitch changes and then
correct the compass data with the help of theese values. Just an
    idea...
